Blog #1 PSA Project: The Plan

The idea behind this project is to have the students in the class create a PSA (Public Service Announcement) that encourages the them as global citizens to think about how they can make a difference in their families lives and potentially in the lives of others by teaching others (through the PSA) what can be done to make a difference.
This project is multi-layered because it involves the students conducting research, planning where they want their project to go and ultimately seeing their project through to completion. Below is the outline for the process for the project.

Process for the Project

Stage One: Investigate

· Brainstorm sustainability issues and actions you can take to make a difference to your impact on the environment.

· Research to find out why the issue you have chosen is such a problem (its causes and effects).

· Find out what kinds of things are being done about this issue.

· Find out more about public service announcements. A PSA is like a commercial—it is clear and concise, short and catchy.

· Explore imovie—practice recording audio, adding text to images etc.

Stage Two: Plan

· Your Public Service Announcement will need:

1st min max = explain what the problem is
2nd min max = why is this a problem? (causes and effects)
3rd min max = what are we going to do about it (or go further on something we're already doing)

· Use a storyboard to plan your PSA

· Write a script.

· Search for and/or create images.

· Keep track of image credits and research sources for your credits page.

· Choose music to include (optional).

Stage Three: Create

· Create PSA in iMovie

· Subject the movie to peer review before final posting and make necessary changes

Stage Four: Evaluate

· Use rubric for self-assessment.

· Post your PSA on your blog and reflect on your learning.
